Letter #12

May 24, 2008

Dear Suzie,

I don’t know what’s going on. Keeping in touch with people is so hard on Instant Message. Lisa sure seems peeved. I was IM’ing her on Thursday telling her about my stay here in Hong Kong. She got mad when I told her that I was messaging her “at Starbuck’s in the International Finance Center overlooking Victoria Harbor in my shorts surrounded by a bunch of mean looking business people”. Let me tell you about it though. Best looking Starbuck’s by far, nice plush velvet seats, sturdy industrial wood cut tables, and huge floor to ceiling windows. It was perfect, with the exception of the people. A few people sat down with me. I didn’t mind much, but out of the six chairs at the table they’d sit on the other side. If you were to borrow someone’s table I’d think you’d want to engage that other person and sit next to them. But no, they just wanted the seat and table. Some people are just so selfish. They just come, use like the majority of my table, eat their lunch, and then go away. The whole time having my inspirational view obstructed. Anyways, that’s the point when Lisa appeared to get mad. “You’re so full of yourself” and then she logged off. I was confused, so I sent her a snapshot of my view hoping she’d see the whole situation. I was trying to be as open and clear about what’s going on. Then I had someone take a picture of me at the table. Turned out great, but a bit busy with all the people in the background looking for a seat to eat. I really wish those people acted more natural and not just stand there looking at me. Haven’t they been taught the basics of manners, like it’s so rude to stare. Sure glad I’m not as clueless.

Lisa is one of my favorite friends. It’s disheartening to think she’s upset at me. She must have read something the wrong way. You know how it is sometimes when you IM. Like when you have multiple topics going on and then you start answering them but the person thinks your answering them in a different order. That’s what happened to me with Rhonda.

Rhonda1234: was that you at my house last night?
Rhonda1234: do you want me to call the fucking cops?
cloudsaresoft101: yes
cloudsaresoft101: no

It took me a long time explaining to the police that she must have misread something. Oh that was such a scene. Then there’s that other problem with IM’ing, how people can a sentence two different ways. I myself ran into this issue when someone said:

lulu714: stop doing that

Wasn’t sure if she meant to stop using the buzz feature to get her attention or if I should put the watermelon away. Not sure how she knew what I was doing, but I guess with internet you can find out anything. It was getting cold anyways, been over an hour.

Oh well, I hope Lisa gets over it. I still like IM’ing.

I know we haven’t talked after I first met you last week or if you even know who I’m talking about, but this is the new me. A Better me. A me who takes the time to write, mainly because you never gave me your number. Thank goodness I saw you last night and followed you home or else I would have never been able to send you this letter.
